Terms of Service
What this is
Background Remover is a free tool by Dead Studios that separates the subject of an image from its background. You choose where the work happens: on our server, or entirely inside your web browser.
Your images
You keep every right to the images you load into the tool and to the results it produces.
In server mode the image is sent to our server over HTTPS, processed in memory, and discarded as soon as the result is returned. It is not written to disk, logged, or kept in any form. In device mode the image never leaves your browser.
You are responsible for having the right to use any image you process, and for how you use the result.
Data
The site does not use accounts, analytics, or tracking cookies. Server mode applies a per-address rate limit, which needs nothing more than the connection's IP address for the duration of the request. In device mode your browser downloads the segmentation model and runtime files from a content delivery network on first use and caches them locally; those requests contain no image data, and clearing site data removes the cache.
No warranty
The tool is provided as is. Results depend on the image and on your device, and may contain artefacts. Dead Studios makes no promise that the tool will be available, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose, and is not liable for any loss arising from its use, to the extent the law allows.
Open-source components
Server mode runs the IS-Net general-use model from the DIS project (Apache 2.0) on ONNX Runtime by Microsoft (MIT). Device mode uses @imgly/background-removal by IMG.LY (GNU AGPL v3) and onnxruntime-web (MIT). Each is used under its own licence.
Changes and contact
These terms may change when the tool changes. The date at the top is the last revision. Questions go to contact@deadstudios.xyz.
